As an American myself, I feel that this article would be more suitably called simply "Yunitid Staits", instead of "Yunitid Staits o' Merika". In our country, people rarely refer to the Republic as, "the United States of America", because that's a lot to say. We generally say "United States", or simply "America". In Latin America, however, they prefer «los Estados Unidos» (the United States), instead of «los Estados Unidos de América» (the United States of America), because they feel that it implies that there is only 1 America. (although one could argue the same about the "Republic of Colombia" because "Colombia" means "land of Columbus", and a historical nickname of the U.S. was "Columbia" (the namesake of Columbia Pictures)).
